Lacey, WA

Welcome to Lacey, WA. In 1970, after completing a tour with the US Navy, my husband and I were set to return to our home state of Montana. However, one beautiful spring day at Sea-Tac Airport in Western Washington changed our plans. Instantly captivated by the region’s allure, we decided to call Lacey our new home, a city nestled between Seattle and Portland, close to Tacoma. This area, with its proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the stunning Olympic and Cascade Mountains, offers an abundance of outdoor activities to keep anyone busy.

Originally named Woodland after the Wood family who settled here in 1870, Lacey carries forward its heritage with the Producers District, featuring many wineries and breweries. Lacey, with a population of 55,000 residents, is the youngest among the Tri-Cities, including Tumwater, Olympia, and Lacey. Known for its progressive nature, Lacey hosts a significant military presence with 30% of its residents being members of the US Military, thanks to its proximity to Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM). The city offers affordable housing options for families and young adults, with recent additions of apartments and new construction homes making it accessible. Lacey also caters to senior adults with over-55 communities like Jubilee and Ovation, along with conveniently located apartment complexes.

Lacey is divided into distinct areas, with the Central District serving as the bustling business and shopping hub. Saint Martin’s University, a top-ranked institution, calls this district home, offering a diverse housing mix of older homes and apartment complexes. South Lacey offers the Capital City Golf Course and abundant lakes for fishing and boating, with average home prices around $329,000. Southeast Lacey, a rapidly growing area, features new construction homes and multi-family residences, averaging $465,000 for home prices. The Northeast area, Hawks Prairie, is a hub of growth, boasting an industrial complex and new commercial districts. It represents an active market with home prices averaging $541,000.

The North Thurston school district, serving 15,000 students, includes 13 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, 3 high schools, and 4 choice schools, holding an A- rating. The Lacey area enjoys an average income of $75,069, and homes typically range from $329,000 to $541,000. Lacey, Washington, is now a dynamic and welcoming community, offering natural beauty, a thriving job market, and a strong commitment to education and sustainability. Welcome to Lacey, where progress and community spirit thrive!
